This is an excellent activity for preschool aged children to practice their fine motor skills. Additionally, it can be used to reinforce counting skills and color recognition. And it’s so simple to make, even the least crafty among us can make it!
You only need two things:
- bag of different colored pipe cleaners
- a container such as a jar.
You twist your pipe cleaners into fish shapes and put them into your container, saving one or two to use as your “fishing rod.”
Then you use the rod to try to hook fish from the container. For a challenge you could ask the child to try to hook a certain number of fish, or a certain color.
The activity pairs well with the book “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish” by Dr Suess.
